Cross Country Championship in Killinkere
This week, our school cross country team took part in the Cavan Primary Schools Cross County Championship event in Kilinkere. In total 34 children ran on the day.
The first race was the girls 600m. Aoife Byrne, Eva Reilly, Cora Taylor, Annie Smith, Emma Reilly and Robyn Clinch all ran incredibly well in this race, with Aoife and Annie both placing inside the top 12 to receive an individual medal. Their team then went on to win the overall gold in the scoring event.
The boys 600m race then followed. Kian Clinch, Lochlann McCormack, Cian McMahon, Seán Óg McCormack, Cillian Gogarty and Oisín Barry ran. The boys gave it everything they had, with Kian and Lochlann both coming inside the top 12 to claim an individual medal.
Next, was the boys and girls 800m races. Eimear Smith, Kayla Clinch, Laila Lord, Chloe Burns, Elle Barry and Sarah Reilly ran for the girls and Odhrán Byrne, Daithí Burns, Jack O’Malley, Shane Hughes, Charlie Reilly and Kyran Tully ran for the boys. All the children did their best and a few just missed out on placing for medals.
The last two races of the day were for our 6th class pupils. In the girls 1000m, Hannah McKenna, Caitlín Canavan, Brenda Murray and Meabh Shiels all ran their hearts out and put in a great effort in the muddy conditions.
In the boys 1000m, Davy McCormack managed to come in 4th place – even though he lost one spike during the race. The boys did amazingly in their last race for the school and managed to claim the silver medal in the team event. The team consisted of Davy McCormack, Charlie rogers, James Reilly, Jack Taylor, Philip Curtis and Cillian Hughes.
